Home Cleaning Tips for Pet Owners

If you own a pet, you know how much harder it is to keep your home clean. The more pets you have, the more you have to clean. This means that many pet owners have to vacuum at least five times a week. Aside from dealing with the standard mess animals can make, pet owners must also pay attention to what they us to clean their home as chemicals from cleaning solutions can be damaging to pets. Here are a few tips for pet owners on how to keep your pets safe and your home clean.

Who let the dogs out?

Why is it, the minute we decide to clean, dogs decide to be right under our feet? Perhaps it’s just their need to be close to us but it still makes finishing the job that much harder. That’s why I suggest putting your dogs in cages or somewhere out of the way while you clean the home. The same can be applied for cats since they are known to weave in and out of your legs as you walk. Aside from helping you complete your chore faster, it also keeps them from licking at the surface you’ve just used a cleaning solution on.

Be clean and green.

While using products like Tilex and Comet on your surfaces may clean well, they are also toxic to yourself and your pets. Licking that surface can poison and sicken your pets. I suggest using lemon and baking soda as a cleaning agent. I swear by it and I know that my pet needs that I pay attention to these things. It is effective and safe for the entire family, including your dogs and cats.

Furry Felines

Cat owners have a harder time than dog owners to keep their home clean. Cats shed far worse than dogs which mean none of your furniture is safe. Let’s not even talk about the damage their claws can do to your sofa! Also, they have a litter box indoors that needs to be cleaned so as not to create a stench in your home. Frequent vacuuming helps but I suggest every cat owner should own a lint brush. Those sticky sheets are fantastic at getting rid of cat hair that can take over your humble abode and your clothing.
